1 notice  In March 1922 Downham and District RBL Branch was founded when  the Town Council gave the organisation some land (close to the present site of our Town War memorial) public monies were raised and a Mr. JS Long chiselled the stone work.  Ever since we have had significant Remembrance Sunday services to lay wreaths of poppies at the base, and everyone in Downham knows we have the largest poppy collection monies for a Town our size.  to celebrate this significant anniversary on Sunday 25th March 2012 a celebratory 90th. Anniversary Parade from the Town Hall car park was held. The Town’s organisations were invited to march with a contingency from RAF Marham,  and  a significant number of Standards from around the county. Many dignitaries attended Taking the salute at the war memorial was General Francis Richard Dannatt, GCB, CBE, MC, DL, together with  Group Captain D J E Cooper ADC MA BEng RAF   and Captain  G J Rushmere , Officer Commanding  A Company. 3rd  Royal Anglian  Regt.  The church service following was attended by the Bishop of Ely.
