Downham Market War Memorial

I have some photos that I ll attach re the refurbished war memorial site here in DM. The RBL and the Town council headed up the fund raising to do the job this year. I chaired the working party with both hats on (ie RBL member and Town Councillor).
I have sent several photos, do use or abandon as you wish, no copy write problem. this year 30 wreaths laid and 36 crosses placed in the flower beds, planting scheme to compliment reds of "poppies" and of wreaths from september to december.
the facts:-
The war memorial it self is sited at

Corner of London Road and Church road
Monies raised by public subscription after WW1

the memorial itself made by Mr HJ Long, a local memorial mason

Unveiled 21 October 1921
73 names WW1
24 names WW2 ( including one female)

1 name plaque on the wall at rear
the last enhancement occurred in 1968 when the memorial was moved to its present site, when road and traffic improvements made. .

It was the immediate surrounding area that badly needed a revamp to improve public accessibility and to enhance it visually.

In 2008 the contractors were Giles Landscapes of Welney, and garden landscaper Jane Besser

Funds were raised from DM Town Council, Boro' Council and The War Memorial Trust and by public subscription managed by the DM & District RBL.

It had to be started and finished between Battle of Britain service in September and Remembrance Events in November 2008.
